Think Opportunity!

This is your chance to get a glimpse into my brain!
Amongst the millions of things on my brain, the one that I want to share with you today is...Opportunity vs Obligation.

I recently read a great article about how Opportunity can easily get confused with Obligation. There are some times when I become so overwhelmed as an #entrepreneur, and just being human, that I forget to see opportunity knocking.

For the past few weeks I was really feeling drained, mentally / creatively and physically. Everything I did, felt like a chore. Everything from networking and making phone calls for my business to driving my daughter to the barn or working out.
I just didn't want to do any of it!

But I was obligated or rather given the opportunity to present to my networking group last Thursday, and came across this article.
In it, there is a reference from Mark Sanborn's book titled “You Don’t Need a Title to be a Leader.”
He shares 'that while building his business he became so overwhelmed with answering the phone that he stopped wanting to answer the phone. He knew he needed to make a change. He goes on to say “I began to see what happened to me as an opportunity rather than an obligation. And it made all the difference. Now when the phone rings, I respond to each call as an opportunity to serve, earn, learn, influence, network, encourage, or teach. The difference isn’t in the caller or the purpose for the call; the difference is in my response. …Genuine, authentic leadership infuses meaning into your life, because you know that your efforts count and that you are serving the needs of others as well as your own.”
Ahhhh! It was refreshing for me to read this gentle reminder that I was choosing to feel as though everything was an obligation rather than seeing it as an opportunity that I am blessed to experience.
Examples of O B L I G A T I O N vs O P P O R T U N I T Y:
Obligation: Mom Taxi
Opportunity: A wonderful opportunity to catch up with my daughter and talk. An opportunity that won't last much longer as she is growing up quickly!
Obligation: Zoom Networking
Opportunity: A chance for me to tell others about Halland Design while meeting people from all different parts of the world.
Obligation: Working Out
Opportunity: Challenging my body to become stronger and healthier, so that I feel great!
It's important to shift your thoughts, from "I feel obligated" to "I am blessed with this opportunity." At the end of the day, the energy you put out, will be the energy you get back. So you might as well take your so called obligation and turn it into an opportunity! It just makes life more fun.
Until the next blog...stay Modest, be BOLD & choose to see opportunities in everything you do.
